Research models anchor damage laws in submarine power cables and presents a sensing method, suggesting improved monitoring strategies.
Submarine power cables are important equipment for power supply to coastal islands and offshore wind farms. Anchor damage accounts for 80% of submarine power cable damage accidents. In order to study the disturbance law of anchor on submarine power cables, a method for sensing the time‐frequency characteristics of optical fibre vibration based on finite elements was proposed. In this paper, a large deformation finite element model of the process of the hall anchor disturbing the submarine power cable was developed. The acceleration vibration signal of the optical fibre inside the submarine power cable was extracted. An energy analysis method was used to reveal the disturbance laws of anchor weight, bottoming speed and anchor damage distance on submarine power cable. The relationship equations between the optical fibre vibration energy and them were established. A small‐scale model experiment platform was built. A total of 112 tests were conducted under 14 working conditions. The absolute errors between the experiment results and the finite element results were no more than 0.1. The correctness of the equation was verified. This method can quickly determine the anchor drop information, obtain the anchor damage data and provide a reference for the online monitoring of submarine power cables.
