Fabrication techniques improve mechanical properties and reduce edge cracking in pure magnesium strips, suggesting enhanced material performance.
The fabrication of ultra-thin pure magnesium (Mg) sheets via rolling is often hindered by issues such as fracture and severe edge cracking. In this study, electropulsing treatment (EPT) was combined with multi-pass rolling to produce 0.1 mm thick pure Mg strips. The aim was to utilize EPT to refine the microstructure and suppress edge cracking. The effects of EPT under different rolling conditions on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the rolled sheets were systematically investigated. Results show that samples subjected to “cold rolling + EPT” exhibited significantly reduced edge cracking and enhanced mechanical properties. These findings not only demonstrate the potential of EPT in producing highly plastic pure Mg thin sheets but also provide insights into the application of EPT for developing high-performance metallic sheets.
