Integration of dual inverter and open-end winding PMSM achieves high power factor and reduces DC-bus current harmonics, indicating effective design for electric mobility systems.
This paper proposes an integrated single-phase power factor correction (PFC) circuit that utilizes a dual inverter and an open-end winding permanent magnet synchronous motor (OEW-PMSM) for motor drive systems. In electric mobility systems, integrated battery chargers that utilize the motor and inverter have been proposed to reduce system cost and volume; however, such approaches typically require additional components or motor modifications. The proposed system achieves a single-phase PFC operation without additional components by utilizing the dual inverter and OEW-PMSM. In addition, a DC-bus current harmonic reduction method is proposed. This method involves the injection of pulse currents through the v-phase leg. Experimental results show that the proposed system achieves a high power factor of 99.6% with sinusoidal input current and stable DC-bus voltage control. Furthermore, the proposed harmonic reduction method decreases the RMS value of the DC-bus current by 12.7%.
