Mixed methods study identifies food insecurity and water scarcity due to climate change in Zambia, suggesting urgent improvements.
The Sahel region of Zambia is particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts such as droughts and floods, which threaten human security by exacerbating food insecurity, water scarcity, and displacement. The study employs a combination of surveys among farmers and community leaders, along with semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data will be analysed using descriptive statistics, while thematic analysis will be applied to the qualitative data. Quantitative survey results indicate that over 60% of respondents experienced crop failures due to erratic rainfall patterns in the past three years. This study highlights the urgent need for climate-resilient agricultural practices and improved water management systems in the Sahel region of Zambia. Policy recommendations include enhancing early warning systems, promoting drought-resistant crops, and developing community-based disaster response plans.
