Discussion focuses on how working parents may miss early signs of illness in children, highlighting the role of pediatricians.
In Reply.— Dr Goldman's point is an important one. By the 1990s, it is estimated that between 65% and 75% of mothers of children younger than 18 years will be in the work force. As Dr Goldman states, these women might not be aware of an onset of illness or a change in condition of their children until early evening when they return home from work. I agree that all pediatricians should be cognizant of the needs of working parents.
