Commentary responds to negative views on growth charts by Duncan et al. in Pediatrics, suggesting they are beneficial for tracking growth patterns.
I am writing to react to the editorial by Owen and Garn, published in the November 1974 issue of Pediatrics. These authors were allowed to present their essentially negative comments concerning the paper on growth charts published by Duncan et al. in editorial format and position (rather than as a Letter to the Editor). I had read the original article with considerable interest and pleasure. I have used these growth charts and found them to be not only novel but helpful in following growth patterns, regardless of their centricity or eccentricity.
