This correspondence suggests using progesterone or tamoxifen instead of VAC chemotherapy in fibromatosis cases, indicating potential therapeutic options.
In Reply.— We are aware that others have used progesterone and tamoxifen in treating patients with difficult varieties of fibromatosis. We have no personal experience with either of these agents in this condition and, therefore, cannot recommend their use based on any direct knowledge of efficacy. Perhaps one of these agents could be tried in lieu of VAC chemotherapy, if the parents believe the toxicity of chemotherapy is excessive for their child. Alternatively, one of them could be used after other measures have been attempted and failed.
