Experimental analysis develops a model to predict particulate matter formation in gasoline engines, indicating a path for cleaner fuels.
Recently, various efforts have been made to achieve carbon neutrality. One such example is e-fuels, alternative fuels to petroleum that are synthesized using CO₂ and H₂ as raw materials. Against this backdrop, internal combustion engines are expected to remain relevant, and further advancements in exhaust gas purification technologies are required. Therefore, we aim to develop a predictive model for particulate matter formation using three-dimensional fluid simulations, and we are conducting experiments and validation of this model. In this study, we utilize a direct-injection gasoline engine to perform total sampling of in-cylinder combustion gases, with the goal of elucidating the particulate formation mechanism and constructing validation data for the predictive model.
