Abstract

This study introduces “Telemotion,” an infrastructure-cooperative autonomous driving system developed for vehicle inspection lines. Telemotion performs remote driving through real-time localization using infrastructure cameras, transmission of control commands via wireless communication, and actuation by onboard actuators. The system has been successfully deployed at Toyota’s Motomachi Plant, achieving autonomous transport of over 7,000 vehicles. Its low-cost infrastructure requirements and minimal vehicle-side modifications enable flexible integration into existing production lines. This research demonstrates the feasibility of autonomous mobility in real-world factory settings through a practical approach combining vehicle control, environmental sensing, and human interaction.
