To elucidate the damage and fracture behavior of SiC fiber/SiC matrix composites under a thermal gradient which is important for gas turbine parts, a rapid heating test method using an infrared lamp heating system was developed. In addition, a non-contact strain measurement using the digital image correlation (DIC) method at high temperatures was examined. As a result, the surface temperature measured by a radiation thermometer exceeded 1000°C, confirming the effectiveness of the experimental method. A one-sided heating test was performed, and the specimen failed at a tensile stress lower than room temperature after the compressive stress due to heating was applied to the specimen.
