Analysis of electronic structure principles reveals stability in metal clusters with magic atom numbers, suggesting deeper insights into their properties.
Magic clusters are more stable, harder, less polarizable and less electrophilic compared to their neighbors. Associated electronic structure principles explain this fact. The main aim of this article is to show the reader that the stability of metal clusters with magic number of atoms can be understood in terms of different electronic structure principles like the principles of maximum hardness, minimum energy, minimum polarizability and minimum electrophilicity.
