The present work describes a methodology to measure the methane-burning velocity using a Bunsen burner. This practice provides experience in some “real-world” procedures (data acquisition, calibration, and set-up design) and also exposes students to analytical and graphical handling of experimental data. The practice described here is suitable for sophomore-level chemistry, physical chemistry, or chemical engineering students.
