3D printing is gaining prominence and recognition in various fields, including dentistry. With advances in 3D imaging and modelling technologies, such as cone beam CT and intra-oral scanning, alongside the established use of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing technologies, it will increase in importance in dentistry. 3D printing offers numerous benefits in the realm of process engineering, with possibilities for dentistry encompassing fields such as prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, restorative dentistry and periodontics. This paper offers a pragmatic and empirical analysis of 3D-printing technologies drawing on the evidence and discusses 3D printing's applicability in dentistry, including the use of 3D-printing technology in the context of dental restorations. 3D-printing technologies offer excellent material use and can produce intricate geometries; however, they are hindered by high costs and time-intensive post-processing requirements. Novel and advanced materials and technology will characterize the trajectory of 3D printing in dentistry, and it is indisputable that 3D printing has a promising future. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Enhanced medical diagnostics have enhanced precision in creating prostheses, thereby creating foreseeable results and better patient care.
