Abstract

Women empowerment is a fundamental requirement for achieving gender equality, social justice, and sustainable development. In India, despite constitutional guarantees and policy initiatives, women continue to face socio-economic, educational, and political challenges. This paper examines the trends, challenges, and policy interventions related to women empowerment in India in the 21st century. The study is based on secondary data from government reports, international organizations, and research studies. It analyzes key indicators such as education, employment, political participation, and health. The findings reveal significant improvements in female literacy, political representation, and economic participation due to government initiatives such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Self-Help Groups, and Skill India. However, gender inequality, unemployment, and social discrimination remain major barriers. The paper concludes that strengthening education, economic opportunities, and gender-sensitive policies is essential for sustainable women empowerment in India.
