Gunotsav is a very important initiative taken by Government of Assam in the field of educational development of the state. The goal behind the implementation of this programme is to evaluate the quality of education in the schools and also measure their learning gap to take some corrective actions for improvement. Gunotsav focuses on the areas like Scholastic, Co-scholastic, Availability and Utilization of School Infrastructure and other facilities and Community Participation etc. Every year a massive amount of man powers were engaged and a huge amount of government funds were used for the smooth conduction of this programme. So, in this paper an attempt has been made to perform a small descriptive cross-sectional observational study on students’ academic performance based on a group of government primary schools in Dibrugarh district of Assam to get an idea about the reliability and validity of this Gunotsav programme in the Government schools of Assam. This study was based on the reading, writing, and numeracy skills of the students as the Gunotsav programme are mainly based on the scholastic activities. The study revealed significant differences between Gunotsav-2025 results and actual student performance in the observational study. In most cases, the schools obtained lower grades in the observational study as compared to Gunotsav-2025. This indicates possible drawback and limitations of the Gunotsav programme. Nevertheless, the study has some limitations also.
