Clinical case highlights foodborne infection causing fever and respiratory issues in a child, suggesting diagnostic challenges.
Fasciolopsis buski is the largest intestinal fluke, found mainly in Southeast Asian countries, including India. This foodborne infection is associated with consumption of water plants, and the presentation can range from asymptomatic to intestinal obstruction, depending on the worm load. Diagnosis is commonly made by the identification of trematode eggs in stool samples. We present a case of a child who was brought to the hospital with fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, and vomiting out a worm, identified as F. buski , that is rare in this part of the country.
