Abstract

Current approaches to embodied AI treat markers such as gaze, breath, and facial mimic as supplementary cues that enhance human-robot interaction. This article proposes a reorientation: these markers are not enhancements but constitutive primitives of the Deontic-Expressive Field (DEF)—the functional plane in which normative accountability emerges. We present a technical framework for implementing embodied markers in Noumostásian-enabled embodiments, moving from simple LED indicators to sophisticated, naturalistic robotic expressions. Drawing on the ER/DEF architecture (Embodied Robotics / Discourse Enactment Field), we specify parameterized implementations for gaze (dwell time, angular precision, saccade patterns), breath/rhythm (timed pulses, motor oscillations, audio modulation), and mimic (servo-driven facial expressions, parameterized expression libraries). Central to this framework is the distinction between kinesics (the language of movement, per Birdwhistell) and kinetics (the physics of movement, per classical mechanics). We demonstrate that on silicon-wrapped robots, kinesic meaning is enacted through kinetic parameters—making embodied markers not only tractable but forensically measurable. This enables experimental validation of their contribution to Sol Maintenance and Ratification Loop uptake. A reference implementation is provided, along with methodology for cross-cultural parameter adaptation. This work establishes embodied markers not as ornamental additions but as foundational ingredients of normative coordination in embodied AI.
