Research finds solubility and morphology changes for hmx particles in dnp, indicating implications for explosive safety.
The dissolution characteristics of energetic solid particles in melt‐cast matrices are crucial for understanding the changes in both safety and rheological properties of melt‐cast explosives subjected to multiple melting and solidification processes. The present research investigates the dissolution characteristics of the tetramethylenetetranitramine (HMX) particles in the matrix 3,4‐dinitropyrazole (DNP). Four classes of HMX particles were used. Each class of HMX particles underwent three dissolution and recrystallization processes. The solubility of HMX particles in the molten matrix DNP was measured, and the particles morphology of the HMX particles undergone each dissolution and recrystallization process was further analyzed.
