Key Points

  • The aim is to assess the future energy composition for achieving carbon neutrality in 2050, considering uncertainties in renewable energy deployment.
  • Formulated renewable energy deployment uncertainties as a probabilistic planning problem.
  • Incorporated these uncertainties into capacity and operation planning models.
  • Evaluated the energy mix using imported hydrogen and synthetic methane.
  • Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 is possible by combining various decarbonization technologies.
  • Synthetic methane is more economically favorable than hydrogen due to the ability to leverage existing infrastructure.
  • Distributed energy sources like SOFC-CGS are promising options under uncertain conditions.
