Demonstrates the synthesis of melamine using various hydroxides in a chemical process, suggesting alternative approaches.
(1) The reacting conditions synthesising melamine from dicyandiamide, potassium hydroxide and benzyl alcohol were determined. (2) Sodium hydroxide may be surely used instead of potassium hydroxide. (3) The intermediate product, cyanamide, was detected and the state of the reaction was assumed. The auther wishes to express his hearty thanks to Professor Kotaro Shimo for his kind guidance and also offers his best thanks to Mr. Tadashi Yamaguchi for his help in the experiments.
