Space debris in Earth's orbit is steadily increasing year by year and is expected to pose significant challenges to human space activities in the future. To address this growing issue, three key approaches are essential: 'observation and prediction,' 'mitigation of debris generation,' and 'removal.' Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is engaged in research and development efforts related to these approaches, while also actively contributing to international rule-making and staying abreast of global trends through organizations such as Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) and the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). Furthermore, JAXA is working on establishing its own standards for space debris management. This presentation will provide an overview of JAXA's ongoing activities related to space debris, with a particular focus on recent research and development activities."
