The Commercial Removal of Debris Demonstration (CRD2) is a JAXA program that aims to make progress in international discussions on the active space debris removal and to improve the competitiveness of Japanese companies in the on-orbit services field. The first phase of the program, Phase I, has advanced to the on-orbit demonstration phase. The demonstration satellite ADRAS-J, developed by Astroscale, was launched on February 18, 2024, acquiring a rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) capability to deal with non-cooperative targets and capturing excellent images of actual space debris. In this talk, an overview of the CRD2 program as well as the achievements to date and future prospects, including Phase II, will be presented.
