This article demonstrates interventions for sustainable healthcare delivery, enhancing patient and planet health.
Healthy populations need a healthy planet: a concept supported by medical, ecological and social science. In this article we present ways for internists to transform their clinical practice toward sustainable healthcare delivery that considers patients and the planet, and benefits both. This article draws attention to three easily implementable interventions in non-pharmacologic prescribing that have a meaningful impact on the health of patients and the planet. We demonstrate how supporting planetary health is aligned with high-value patient-centric care, grounding the concept that patient health and planetary health are interconnected.
