Research demonstrates allelopathic effects of phenolic acids on disease severity in Cylindrocarpon destructans, suggesting potential agricultural applications.
Using HPLC the Gallic acid, salicylic acid, 3-Phenylpropionic acid, benzoic acid and cinnamic acid were identified in the ginseng rhizosphere soil. These phenolics between the 0.05 mmol·L-1to 0.5 mmol·m-1 concentrations promoted the spore germination and mycelium growth of Cylindrocarpon destructan (zinss) Scholten. In pot and field experiments, the Gallic acid, salicylic acid and benzoic acid at 0.5 mmol·L-1 and 3-Phenylpropionic acid, cinnamic acid at 0.05 mmol·L-1 concentrations aggravated the disease severity by this fungus.
