Evaluating the effects of syringic acid on soil community structures in cucumber seedlings, indicating its complex role in plant health.
Different concentrations of syringic acid were added to cucumber seedlings rhizosphere and their effects on soil Fusarium and Trichoderma abundances and structures were evaluated by qPCR and PCR-DGGE. Results showed that all concentrations of syringic acid (0.02-0.2 µmol g-1 soil) did not change the community structure and abundance of Trichoderma. Syringic acid at 0.1 µmol g-1 soil increased while at 0.2 µmol g-1 soil decreased Shannon-Wiener index and evenness index of Fusarium. Syringic acid at 0.02 and 0.05 µmol g-1 soil had no significant effects on Fusarium community structure. All concentrations of syringic acid promoted Fusarium abundance and syringic acid at 0.1 µmol g-1 soil had the highest Fusarium abundance among all treatments.
