The GRAPHEGIA project was launched on the 1st of October, 2023, for 3,5 years, and it is a research and innovation project co-funded by the European Union. It uses graphene-enabled innovation to develop novel and sustainable energy-harvesting and storage systems. Deliverable 6.1 “Preliminary LCA and LCC Assessment” was created by Next Technology Tecnotessile, project partners leading Work Package 6 ”Life cycle assessment, sustainability and ecodesign approach”. Abstract This report presents a preliminary sustainability assessment of graphene-based technologies developed within GRAPHERGIA. Three demonstrators are analysed: (1) self-charging textiles for energy harvesting and storage, (2) self-powered aerospace sensors embedded in composites, and (3) graphene-enhanced lithium-ion battery modules for space applications. The study applies Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Life Cycle Costing (LCC), and Eco-Cost methodologies, following ISO 14040/14044 standards and using SimaPro with Ecoinvent database. Results identify environmental and economic hotspots, highlight potential cost-reduction pathways, and provide early guidance for eco-design strategies. NOTE: This deliverable has not yet been approved by the European Commission. The approved public version will be updated as soon as possible.
