Key Points

  • To develop a novel method for synthesizing azatrithiathiophthene heterocycles using diverse reactants.
  • Utilized multiple C-H functionalization techniques
  • Involved active methyl hetarenes and cinnamonitriles
  • Incorporated elemental sulfur in the reaction
  • Produced a series of novel azatrithiathiophthenes
  • Introduced a tetravalent sulfur atom linking two fused heterocycles
  • Demonstrated the effectiveness of the multicomponent reaction strategy

Abstract

A new approach for synthesizing polysulfa fused azatrithiathiophthene heterocycles was developed based on multiple C-H functionalization of diverse active methyl hetarenes and cinnamonitriles with elemental sulfur. This multicomponent reaction afforded a series of novel azatrithiathiophthenes bearing a tetravalent sulfur atom in the junction of two fused heterocycles.
