Abstract

A light conversion film made of poly(methyl acrylate) and containing an organic luminophore, 9,10-diphenylanthracene (DPA), was fabricated for the first time, and its optical properties were studied. This film exhibited an absorption spectrum characteristic of DPA in the 345–420 nm range and a photoluminescence spectrum in the visible region between 410 and 550 nm. The film was used to cover a cellular polycarbonate greenhouse for growing tomatoes and peppers at latitudes with short daylight hours in spring. It was found that the film deposited onto a polycarbonate greenhouse accelerates the growth of plants by 8.1% (tomato) and by 4.7% (pepper) compared to the control plants grown under the same conditions in a similar greenhouse, but without DPA-containing film. Moreover, it is also resulted in earlier fruit ripening and a 2- (tomato) and 1.5-fold (pepper) increase in the number of fruit per bush.
