This protocol demonstrates meta-selective sulfonylation of pyridines, suggesting an efficient method for drug modification.
A copper(I)‐photocatalyzed protocol for the meta‐ selective sulfonylation of pyridines with sulfonyl chlorides is described. The operationally simple reaction proceeds under precious‐metal‐ and external‐oxidant‐free conditions and exhibits high regioselectivity, broad substrate scope, and excellent functional‐group tolerance. The mild protocol enables late‐stage conversion of pharmaceutically relevant molecules into the desired sulfonated pyridines in acceptable yields, offering an efficient and sustainable route for drug diversification and structural modification.
