This work presents a unified energetic interpretation of melting depth and ablation depth in laser–metal interaction. By analyzing the energy balance between absorbed laser energy, phase transitions, and material removal, the study clarifies the physical link between melting and ablation thresholds. The results provide a practical framework for predicting material response in laser welding, micromachining, and precision processing.
