Does the biomarker profile of stress hormones, BNP, and troponin differentiate apical ballooning syndrome from STEMI?
Routine measurement of stress hormones is not diagnostically useful for Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, but the condition is characterized by higher BNP and lower troponin compared to STEMI.
Catecholamine and cortisol levels were not elevated in our cohort of ABS, suggesting that routine measurement of these stress hormones is unlikely to be of diagnostic value in practice. In contrast to STEMI, ABS is characterised by a greater elevation in BNP and less myonecrosis.
