Does Coronary Artery Calcification (CAC) score predict Cardiovascular Disease Incidence better than Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (IMT)?
Participants in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)
Coronary Artery Calcification (CAC) score
Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (IMT)
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Incidencehard clinical
Coronary artery calcification scoring is superior to carotid intima-media thickness for predicting incident cardiovascular disease events.
Although whether and how to clinically use bioimaging tests of subclinical atherosclerosis remains a topic of debate, this study found that CAC score is a better predictor of subsequent CVD events than carotid IMT.
