The study focuses on the provenance of the Basal conglomerate Formation through Rare Earth Elements proxy Signature using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). For the present study, Rare Earth Elements (REEs) concentrations have been analysed for 15 conglomerate samples collected from eight different sampling sites exposed along the south-central part of the plateau stretching from Shillong to Mawsynram. The results obtained revealed a significant presence of REEs in the Basal conglomerate Formation with a total REEs content of 6322.37 ppm, of which total Heavy Rare Earth Elements (HREE) and Light Rare Earth Elements (LREE) are 641.35 ppm and 5681.02 ppm, respectively. The provenance determined through the REEs distribution pattern of Chondrite-normalized using the spider plot software revealed a fractionated REE trend with a negative Europium (Eu) anomaly. Of which the provenance pattern is suggestive of porphyritic granite.
