The asymptotic behavior of electron and photon elastic scattering amplitudes of order α³ in an intense constant electromagnetic field are studied. It is shown that the expansion parameter of perturbation theory in intense-field quantum electrodynamics is αχ2/3 when χ1, where χ=[(eF_μνp_ν)²]1/2m³ with p_μ the momentum of the particle and F_μν the electromagnetic field tensor.
