Do dietary fibre, oily fish, a Mediterranean diet, and reduced caloric intake reduce the risk of diabetic retinopathy?
Specific dietary patterns, including increased fibre and oily fish, a Mediterranean diet, and reduced caloric intake, are associated with a lower risk of diabetic retinopathy.
This is the authors' abstract. We don't add key points for this paper.
Dietary fibre, oily fish, a Mediterranean diet and a reduced caloric intake are associated with lower risk of DR. Longitudinal data and interventional models are warranted to confirm our findings and better inform clinical guidelines.
May inform dietary advice in diabetes; leaves open whether these patterns causally reduce DR without randomized trials.
