Global, regional, and national burden of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, 1990–2016: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016
To quantify the global, regional, and national burden, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) attributable to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias between 1990 and 2016.
Conducted a systematic analysis using data and standardized modeling methods from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016.
Estimated prevalence, incidence, mortality, years of life lost, years lived with disability, and DALYs across 195 countries and territories from 1990 to 2016.
Global cases and overall burden of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias increased substantially from 1990 to 2016, primarily driven by population growth and aging demographics.
Substantial heterogeneity in age-standardized prevalence and burden metrics was observed across geographic regions and socioeconomic development tiers.
