A mathematical material model for granular soils, based on classical plasticity theory, is proposed. The yield surface combines a generalized ideally plastic Coulomb-Mohr failure envelope with a moving cap, crossing the hydrostatic loading axis, whose position depends on plastic volumetric strain. It is shown how this model can fit laboratory test data for a particular sand sample.
