Abstract

A self-report scale probing the factors of adequacy in and predilection for physical activity was developed for children ages 9–16. Reliability was assessed using a 2-week test-retest design. Validity was examined using participation questionnaires, teacher evaluations, and motor proficiency testing. Testing was done on 1,205 children over a 2-year period. Results indicated strong reliability and moderate validity of the scale. The scale was found to be useful for the identification of children at risk for hypoactivity and its attendant disorders.
