Key Points

  • To evaluate the Berrett Model for its effectiveness in deciphering the Rongorongo script through statistical validation.
  • Introduced the Berrett Model as a computational framework for analysis.
  • Conducted phonetic pattern analysis to identify potential syllabic mappings.
  • Performed statistical comparisons against control data to determine non-random features.
  • Established audit trails to reinforce reproducibility of results.
  • Identified non-random structural features in the Rongorongo corpus.
  • Supported the phonetic encoding hypothesis with statistical evidence.
  • Provided a testable foundation for future analysis of the script.

Abstract

Rongorongo remains one of the world’s few undeciphered writing systems. This paper introduces the Berrett Model, a computational framework for evaluating proposed syllabic mappings within the corpus. By combining phonetic pattern analysis with statistical comparison against control data, the model identifies non-random structural features consistent with a phonetic encoding hypothesis. The approach emphasizes reproducibility through audit trails and quantitative validation, providing a testable foundation for further analysis of the Rongorongo script.
