Research assesses soil erosion hazards during irrigation in the Volga region, indicating implications for water management practices.
The practice of irrigation by sprinkling in various climatic zones of the country shows that one of the main problems of sprinkling is the formation of surface water runoff, which leads to irrigation erosion of the soil, deterioration of the rec-lamation condition of the irrigated area. The article examines the issue of as-sessing the erosion hazard of the soil during irrigation with wide-reach sprinkler machines in the UNPO "Volga region" of Vavilov University. When justifying the erosion-permissible irrigation norms, the indicator of free (non-pressure) water permeability, which depends on the size of raindrops and its intensity, was used as a criterion for assessing water absorption into the soil. Erosion-permissible ir-rigation norms and irrigation time before the formation of runoff for specific soil-relief and economic conditions have been established.
