Four variations of the Kjeldahl digestion were compared with a H 2 SO 4 –H 2 O 2 digestion for N and P analysis, and a microwve digestion method and a dry ashing procedure for P analysis. One Kjeldahl variant using a Na 2 SO 4 –Se catalyst was found to be suitable for multi-element analysis while doubling the per diem output of digestions compared with the H 2 SO 4 –H 2 O 2 method, provided that P was analyzed by the molybdivanadate (MV) procedure.
