Does warfarin therapy increase the incidence of hemorrhage or result in poorer anticoagulant control in an elderly population with atrial fibrillation?
Warfarin therapy appears safe and effective for anticoagulant control in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation when managed in a dedicated anticoagulant clinic.
While it was impossible to consider any selection bias at the level of referral to the clinic, these findings suggest that the elderly population attending our anticoagulant clinic did not have poorer anticoagulant control or an increased incidence of hemorrhage while receiving warfarin therapy.
