This study analyzes the effect of surface acting on emotional exhaustion amongst 100 hotel staff members in the city of Bangalore. Through a quantitative approach involving departments such as Front Office and Housekeeping, the research found that there exists a strong positive correlation (r =. 581) between surface acting and burnout. From the results of this research, it was seen that workers between the ages of 26 and 35 and having 1 to 3 years' worth of experience were most susceptible to burnout. Besides, perceived stress has emerged as a moderating variable, where high perceived stress levels strengthen the relationship between emotional labor and exhaustion; otherwise, perceived low stress acts as a buffer. In order to attain emotional sustainability, hotel management should employ a resilience-oriented onboarding process for junior workers and create an environment that is conducive towards emotional sustainability.
