Final deliverable examines H2IOSC MarketPlace integration and performance in collaborative environments, suggesting innovations.
The final version of the deliverable D5.1 CLARIN/OPERAS/DARIAH/E-RIHS and the H2IOSC MarketPlace examines in depth the structure and functioning of the interconnection and mutual exchange system between the four Research Infrastructures, with their associated services, and the H2IOSC MarketPlace. To this end, it highlights the pivotal role of a chosen set of integrated technologies – ranging from OAI-PMH to APIs and the orchestration system – in setting up and ensuring communication and essential relationships between the different project components. The deliverable provides a comprehensive overview of the H2IOSC MarketPlace, which is coordinated by OPERAS-IT and acts as a connection point and single, dynamic and functional access environment for the collaborative sharing, use, and management of data and services. It offers a detailed analysis of the nature and functions of APIs and the orchestration system — the technological core of the H2IOSC MarketPlace — which ensures the harmonised coordination and management of multiple systems, processes, applications and services, guaranteeing their efficient and effective mutual communication and integration, as well as optimal API performance. The integration model allows services to be managed and orchestrated without executing application workflows that directly impact the computational resources allocated by federated platforms to the MarketPlace itself. This approach, which represents the main element of innovation compared to the marketplace models developed so far in federated platforms and Open Science Clouds, guarantees the possibility of integrating heterogeneous infrastructures into a distributed and flexible system. It optimises coordination between services without imposing operational constraints on how they are executed and also respects the possibility of integrating services at various levels of the federation and the platform. In detail, the deliverable thoroughly reviews the nature and functioning of APIs and their main components. On the one hand, these are key elements to ensuring effective relationships and communication between the WPs and the integration of manifests in the data model and orchestration flows — a decisive step for providing some fundamental H2IOSC services. On the other hand, it is important to remark that they can be used in the same way and to the same purposes in other Open Science Cloud and Marketplace systems. In projects whose rules allow it, they can contribute to the project's economic sustainability by providing a scalable monetisation model: however, this does not apply to the H2IOSC model and will only be outlined in theory. Furthermore, after outlining the fundamental distinction between orchestration and composition, the deliverable explains the strategic and operational importance of the orchestration system in relation to the MarketPlace - which is designed as a point of exposure and orchestration of services - and illustrates its features and functioning. The final section proposes short-to-medium term developments to be realised thanks to the H2IOSC MarketPlace and its advanced orchestration services. These developments aim to achieve ever greater integration between components, tools, functions and services, while offering users increasingly tailored solutions. In conclusion, the deliverable offers a concise contextualisation of APIs and the orchestration system within the broader context of DH European research space, emphasising their wide range of applications and potential for creating open ecosystems in which researchers, developers, and the public can access and use tools and resources. The deliverable is completed by a series of Annexes corresponding to objective, quantitative and measurable indicators relevant to the monitoring and ex-post assessment of the expected results. With regard to the H2IOSC ecosystem and its MarketPlace, the five Annexes outline essential components, aspects and features of the latter, as well as key work methods and procedures that ensure its successful implementation, operation, and service delivery.
