Murine model reveals that Mulberroside C reduces lung injury and inflammation, suggesting therapeutic potential.
Acute lung injury (ALI) is a pulmonary disease exhibited by local inflammation, which can lead to hypoxemia, pulmonary edema, and respiratory failure, and lacks targeted treatment strategies. Mulberroside C (Mul C) is a bioactive phytochemical isolated from Mori Cortex Radicis (MCR) . In this research, we developed a murine model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced ALI. Mul C administration significantly reduced the lung wet/dry weight ratio and increased body weight in LPS‐induced ALI mice, improved pathological changes in pulmonary tissue, alleviated pulmonary edema, and inhibited inflammatory response. Mul C treatment reduced the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) in murine pulmonary tissue with ALI, while boosting glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐Px) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in lung tissue. In addition, Mul C had strong binding with NF‐κB p65 and Nrf2 receptor proteins and upregulation of Nrf2 and downregulation of NF‐κB p65 expression in pulmonary tissue. These findings suggest that Mul C shows protective effects in a pretreatment mouse model of LPS‐induced ALI.
