The Resource-Based View (RBV) has emerged as a dominant paradigm in strategic management, shifting the focus from external industry conditions to internal organizational assets. This paper explores the theoretical foundations of RBV, primarily through the lens of Barney’s (1991) VRIO framework, and evaluates its impact on enterprise performance. By analysing contemporary empirical research from 2024 to 2026, including studies on digital transformation, green marketing, and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), this paper demonstrates how valuable, rare, inimitable, and non-substitutable (VRIN) resources drive sustained competitive advantage (SCA). The findings suggest that while resource possession is critical, the integration of dynamic capabilities and strategic orientation is essential for translating internal assets into financial and operational success in fluctuating markets.
