Examines AI's potential to detect and mitigate cyberterrorism's impact on national infrastructure.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution has led to significant progress in the development of artificial intelligence, which today represents an indispensable technology across various modern fields, ranging from automated data analysis and process automation to applications in industry and cybersecurity. This paper examines the potential applications of artificial intelligence for countering cyberterrorism, a threat located primarily in cyberspace. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how advanced algorithms from various artificial intelligence techniques, particularly machine learning and deep learning, can aid in detecting this threat while also mitigating its impact on critical national infrastructure. The first part of the paper outlines the origins, definitions, and key features of of artificial intelligence, emphasizing the importance of machine learning and deep learning as its most widely applied branches. The second part offers a comprehensive overview of the concept of cyberterrorism, assessing its definitions and characteristics while addressing the question of whether cyber terrorism is an illusion or a reality. Finally, the concluding section of the paper links these two concepts by analysing the role and potential applications of artificial intelligence in countering cyberterrorism.
