A computer simulation is carried out to study the motion of a magnetic domain wall through a random array of obstacles. The coercive field and the initial susceptibility are determined as a function of the defect density, the interaction force, and of the area and rigidity of the domain wall. For weakly interacting defects the domain wall remains rigid and a potential model applies, whereas for strong defect interaction bowing of the domain wall occurs.
