Abstract

In the context of the climate emergency and the transition toward a circular economy, the construction sector faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable materials. Foamed glass aggregates (FGA) are an innovative solution that transform waste glass into high-performance construction materials, embodying the principles of the circular economy. Despite growing interest among researchers, there has not yet been a bibliometric analysis that systematically examines the evolution and current state of research on FGAs. This study fills that gap by conducting the first large-scale bibliometric analysis of the literature on FGAs in construction applications. A total of 99 scientific articles indexed in Scopus from 2002 to 2024 were analyzed using rigorous selection criteria and advanced bibliometric methods, including co-citation analysis, thematic mapping, and trend analysis. Results reveal a sharp increase in publications after 2015, with research predominantly focusing on lightweight properties and thermal insulation. Keyword evolution further demonstrates a recent intensification of concerns related to sustainability and circular economy. This analysis provides essential insights for understanding FGA research evolution, guiding future research priorities, and identifying strategic opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration in sustainable construction materials.
