The role of the nanowire diameter on the electrical properties of isolated poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) nanowires has been studied systematically by a four-terminal technique. A transition from an insulating to a metallic regime is observed when the diameter decreases from 190to35nm and a transition from a metallic to an insulating regime takes place for the smaller diameters. These results are of importance for the different potential applications based on polymer nanowires or nanotubes.
